2004 Imperial Reserva, CVNE, Rioja

Imperial Reserva, CVNE, Rioja
From the increasingly appreciated 2004 vintage, this is a very fine Imperial Reserva. Made from 80% Tempranillo, 10% Graciano and 10% Mazuelo and aged for 24 months in new French and American oak, this has a plumy regal colour and an impressive nose with notes of fig, balsam and earth already adding complexity to the quality of ripe fruit. The palate adds bitter chocolate and spice box. The ensemble is finely woven, with ripe but firm tannins providing a satisfying architecture.

Imperial Reserva, CVNE, Rioja
The 2004 Imperial Gran Reserva is 85% Tempranillo, 10% Graciano, and 5% Mazuelo aged in new French and American oak for 24 months. Deep crimson-colored, it gives up aromas of toast, spice box, espresso, blackberry, and plum. Medium to full-bodied, on the palate it displays a plush texture, ripe flavors, excellent volume and concentration, and a relatively forward personality. It will be approachable in 2-3 years and will offer prime drinking from 2013 to 2024.
