2011 Finca Flichman, Caballero de la Cepa Chardonnay, Mendoza

Finca Flichman, Caballero de la Cepa Chardonnay, Mendoza
Finca Flichman is one of the most respected names in Argentina. The Bodegas are located in the areas of Barrancas, Maipú, and Mendoza Province, where the first plots were planted in 1870.

The Caballaro de la Cepa is a vineyard with 30 year old vines, planted at Barrancas on alluvial soils which once, admittedly rather a long time ago, covered the bed of the Mendoza River. Winemaker Luis Cabral de Almeida has fermented the wine in stainless steel and matured it for six months in French oak, with weekly lees-stirring (bâtonnage) to add to the texture and rich honied mouth feel.

The result is very pleasing, combining as it does a generous New World ripeness, rich creamy and toasty, yet with a more European constraint, evidenced by firm acidity which provides a net buttress to support this impressive edifice.
