2009 Chono Cabernet Sauvignon, Maipo Valley

Chono Cabernet Sauvignon, Maipo Valley
An excellent alternative to Bordeaux is the 2009 Chono Cabernet Sauvignon from The Maipo Valley in Chile. The complex soil structure of the Maipo Valley allied to its location close to the Andes and ensuing cooling influences have provided a perfect backdrop for Chono’s grapes. The grapes in question for this wine are Cabernet Sauvignon (85%), Cabernet Franc (5%) and Carménère (10%).

Under the supervision of the esteemed Alvaro Espinoza, the grapes have been vinified separately, a significant percentage lightly oaked. It is the fruit above all, however, which underlines the quality, and ripe and finely textured fruit it is too! Elderberry and blackberry notes are complemented by aromatics of violet and blackcurrant leaf; the palate is impressively structured and self-assured.
