Description

The evocative name of St Emilion conjures up warm, plummy, earthy yet elegant wines; for those of you have been there it will also call to mind a pretty hilltop town complete with gently humming cafés and surrounded by verdant vines. Enjoy the chance to experience the range of styles which St Emilion has to offer, with expert guide Martin Hudson MW at your side.

He will contrast the wines from the steep limestone slopes with those from the plain and from the small, complex gravel bed on the border with neighbour Pomerol. You will learn how the soil affects the blend of grape varieties in each wine, and will also discover Bordeaux’s most meritocratic and perhaps also most controversial classification system. This evening’s star-studded line-up will end on a high as you have the chance to taste a mature example of the famous and ultra-lush Château Ausone.

Wines to be tasted:

2000 Pol Roger, Brut
2008 Ch. La Dominique, Grand Cru Classé, St. Emilion
2007 Ch. St Georges-Côte-Pavie, Grand Cru Classé, St. Emilion
2007 Ch. Pavie-Macquin, 1er Grand Cru Classé ‘B’, St Emilion
2006 Ch. Fonroque, Grand Cru Classé, St. Emilion
2005 Ch. Larcis Ducasse, Grand Cru Classé, St. Emilion
2003 Ch. Angélus, 1er Grand Cru Classé ‘B’, St Emilion
2002 Ch. Figeac, 1er Grand Cru Classé ‘B’, St Emilion
1998 Ch. Ausone, 1er Grand Cru Classé ‘A’, St Emilion
