Cassis

See Cassis producers

Sheltered from the mistral wind by Cap Canaille and situated 20 km east of Marseilles, and on the border with Côtes de Provence, Cassis is the smallest of Provence’s appellations.

Uniquely for the region, Cassis devotes 75% of its production to whites wines made from Clairette, Marsanne, and a small proportion of Ugni Blanc and Sauvignon Blanc. The wines are dry, characterised by low acidity and distinctive herbal tones

The viticultural area ( just over 175 hectares) is under threat from the continuing development of greater Marseilles This fact, coupled with high local demand for the wines, means that only a limited amount of wines are exported from the region.
