Pic Saint-Loup
See Pic Saint-Loup producers See a list of Pic Saint-Loup wines
Pic Saint-Loup in Côteaux du Languedoc is evocatively and accurately named, with steep limestone escarpments stark in the Mediterranean sunshine of the hilly up-lands to the north of Montpellier. Pic St Loup produces some of the finest wines in the Languedoc.
To qualify as a Pic Saint-Loup a wine must contain 90% of Syrah, Grenache and Mourvèdre, a bold initiative and thus far a successful one with some truly outstanding domaines such as Lascaux and Cazeneuve producing some of the very best wines in the region.

Lancyre’s Vieilles Vignes Cuvée is a blend of 65% Syrah and 35% Grenache, the age of the vines in question bring over 30 years, so certainly middle-aged if not actually old! After a chewy and quite tannic 2007, the 2008 is more refined and harmonious, its old vine pedigree ... MORE |

Quite why the second wine of Hortus is called Bergerie is something of a mystery but it sounds rather nice and suitably bucolic. The vineyards are in the tiny appellation of Pic Saint-Loup, with its steep limestone escarpments, stark in the Mediterranean sunshine of the hilly up-lands to ...

Eponymous chalky soils and a blend of Syrah (more Syrah than is usual in Pic-St. Loup), Grenache and Mourvèdre (André Leenhardt is a great fan and a craftsman of Mourvèdre) have created a wine rich in aroma and ripe red and black fruit. The nose sings notes from the ... MORE |
