Quarts de Chaume

See Quarts de Chaume producers

Quarts de Chaume is an incredibly small (approx 35 ha) Anjou sub-region responsible for producing tiny quantities of sweet Chenin Blanc wines.

The grapes are grown on schistous rock soils overlooking the Layon tributary,  and are  concentrated by the action of noble rot/botrytis cinerea (ala Sauternes, Barsac) to give barley-sugar like elixirs, rich in extract, residual sugar and alc (approx 14%). They are  aged in french barriques and have the capacity to age for up to 30 years.

Domaine des Forges is an excellent producer.
