Picpoul de Pinet

Combining variety and location in its nomenclature, Picpoul De Pinet is a cru within the diverse expanse of the Coteaux De Languedoc, located in the  Basin De Thau to the South-West of Montpellier, on the road to Béziers. Picpoul de Pinet is an aromatic variety which has found its natural home in sandy gravely soils, centred on both the eponymous village of Pinet and the old town of Montagnac. The etymology of the grape variety gives a clue to the style; ‘pique’ implying the crispness and firmness, ‘poule’, rather more tangentially, hinting at soft and maternal qualities.

The success of the appellation is due to a beguiling combination of its accessibility to millions of tourists every summer and to the fact that its wines are extremely good, combining fine acidity, a rich texture and both spice and minerality which make them supremely well-suited to local sea-food dishes. Unlike a lot of wines 'discovered on holiday' these ones, especially when in capable hands such as those of Felines Jourdan, taste just as good  at home.
