Light Bodied, Dry, Red, Other Varieties, Drink now, Stelvin Closure, 12% alc.

This is custom-made for us by Jean-Luc Terrier & Christian Collovray in the south of France and is made predominantly of Merlot, affording plumy richness to the blend. Cabernet Franc, Grenache and Alicante Bouschet also play their part, creating a beautifully structured wine which retains a primacy of red fruit. The ideal accompaniment to summer BBQs. MORE

Medium-Full Bodied, Dry, Red, Syrah/Shiraz, Ready, but will keep, 13.5% alc.

Perennial favourite at BBR and, it should be said, several of its prestigious restaurant customers, Franz Venes’ Cuvée des Oliviers is a blend of 30% Cabernet-Sauvignon, 30% Carignan, 20% Cinsault, 10% Syrah and 10% Grenache. It is juicy but with a Southern French concentration, manifested by hints of herbs, licorice and spice adorning a bedrock of ripe fruit, of both red and black complexion.

Medium Bodied, Dry, Red, Petit Verdot, Ready, but will keep, 13% alc.

Arnould de Bertier farms over 200 hectares in the Côtes de Thongue, his vineyards located between Béziers and Agde. His speciality is the expressive single varietal (or, in this case dual varietal) wine, in this instance made from two Bordelais grapes, the very well-known Cabernet Sauvignon and the less well-known Petit Verdot. As both are known for thick skins and yield concentrated juice, it should come as no surprise that this example has plenty of weight and no shortage of depth. What may be more surprising is the juicy nature of the fruit, the length on the palate and the fine, unobtrusive tannins. Terrific value!

Medium Bodied, Dry, Red, Syrah/Shiraz, Drink now, Cork Closure, 13% alc.

"Less overtly alcoholic and jammy than New World Shiraz, but without the complexity (or price tag) of the great names of the Northern Rhône, this is a great example of a juicy and delicious Vin De Pays Syrah. Unoaked and gloriously ripe, this is an exuberant expression of Mediterranean sunshine, albeit tempered by the cooler influence from the slopes of the Montagne Noire. With a rich and satisfying mouth feel, gentle tannins and impressive length this would work well with roast chicken or guinea fowl." (Simon Field- BBR Buyer) MORE

"Familongue are in the habit of winning prizes, and they certainly impressed me earlier this year when tasted blind at a Sopexa Tasting (Vin de Pays Top 100) organised by Tim Atkin MW, where, once again they picked up a Trophy. A lovely, beautifully balanced wine; made up of Syrah 4%, Cinsault 12%, Merlot 23%, Carignan 36%, Cabernet Sauvignon 25%, a slightly unsual blend, but one that seems to work well. A deep purple robe then a nose of wild raspberry, licorice and tapenade; the palate is profound, with an attractive sweetness, fine tannins and plenty of Mediterranean warmth."

Medium Bodied, Dry, Red, Syrah/Shiraz, Ready, but will keep, Cork Closure, 13% alc.

"Syrah is one of the reasons for the success of Minervois la Livinière in general and for the success of Pierre André Ournac as a vigneron in particular. No surprises then , that his Vin De Pays Syrah is an outstanding exemplar. Farmed on the slopes of the Montagne Noir and vinified without oak, this is a juicy and richly satisfying Syrah. Blackberry, spice, a little pepper and then a refreshing palate where the tannins are gentle but present where the finish is long but clean. Exceptional value." (Simon Field MW, BBR Buyer) MORE

...these Cinsault vines are more than 40 years old, so the resulting fruit has bags ofcharacter, and the wine is not filtered or fined so has not lost any of itspersonality getting from vat to bottle. Obviously, at this price, this is an unoaked wine, but a four-week maceration has resulted in no shortage of varietal character. I loved its perfume, its fruity, soft, charming start, andenjoyed the juicy crunch on the finish. This is a simple wine, but delightfully so, designed for drinking over the next six to eight months.

"Located between Beziers and the fashionable enclave of St Chinian, Dom. Belot is building quite a reputation, especially for its single varietal wines. Merlot from the Languedoc is quite difficult to get right; ripeness is essential, over-ripeness fatal. Belot got it exactly right in 2005; the plumy damson richness is evidenced, with very finely managed tannins lending a discrete support and ensuring that the inherent generosity of the wine has not been allowed to become jammy or stewed. A perfect match for casseroles, roasts and similar!Terrific value and drinking perfectly now. This will knock you Sideways!"
