Côtes de Blaye lies directly north of Côtes de Bourg and produces wines that are broadly similar in style to its neighbour, if perhaps marginally more polished.
The best vineyards are entitled to the appellation of Premières Côtes de Blaye. It is a large appellation, capable of producing over 2 million cases of wine each year. The port of Blaye itself is worthy of visit and there is a small ferry which connects the port with Lamarque on the Left Bank, removing the need for a detour via the city of Bordeaux.
