"Familongue are in the habit of winning prizes, and they certainly impressed me
earlier this year when tasted blind at a Sopexa Tasting ( Vin de Pays Top 100
Competition) organised by Tim Atkin MW, where, once again they picked up a
Trophy. A lovely and beautifully balanced wine; made up a third each of Merlot,
Carignan and Cabernet Sauvignon, a slightly unusual blend, but one that seems
to work rather well. A deep purple robe then a nose of wild raspberry, licorice
and tapenade; the palate is profound, with an attractive sweetness, fine
tannins and plenty of Mediterranean warmth." (Simon Field MW, BBR Buyer)

Picpoul de Pinet proves to be the perfect accompaniment to seafood, crisp, a
beautifully refined wine with a delicate minerality. Mme. Jourdan has few peers
when it comes to this under-rated variety.

A great wine that's all about fruit and more fruit. It's unoaked, so
you just get a gorgeous whack of forest berries, packed with warm sunshine from
the south of France. You get a lot for your money, too, as this wine is an
exercise in mouthfeel, that combination of velveteen richness, structuring
tannins and fleshy ripeness that all have to be in perfect balance (and here
they are) for a truly satisfying red.

Old-vine Carignan is quite a popular term these days, its implication being
that because the vines have been there a long time, that they has acquired a
mysterious veneer of quality that is sometimes lacking in this, the putative
work-horse variety of the region. Caveat emptor! Some old vine Carignan is
better than others, and this is one of the best. Familongue have a knack of
making wines that are rich, full bodied and yet replete with local colour and
personality. Marinated dark fruits, souisbois and a hint of licorice are
evidenced here, the palate is full but rounded, the finish clean and
satisfying. One for sanglier or boudin noir!(Simon Field MW, BBR Buyer)

"Syrah predominates here, with 15% Mourvèdre and 10% Grenache. A de facto
'second wine' described by Réné Rostaing as 'gourmand', this is silky, rounded
and immediately seductive; hints of garrigue and autumnal earth underpin the
attractive hedgerow fruits; all in all a most pleasing landscape. Softer than
the 06, with less oak ageing, a more approachable wine, more immediately Syrah
than the more senior 05"

"Syrah and Grenache from the dramatic eponymous limestone peaks just to the
north of Montpellier. With a distinctive nose of garrigue, incense and
macerated plum, this is a warm Mediterranean wine, its putative rawness long
since tamed by the expertise of Jean Benoit Cavalier. Dark fruit on the palate,
then a mineral acidity and a warming but not hot finish. A good match for
casseroles and jugged hare."

" Very tangy nose – really appetising. Lots of lemon fruit and very
slight astringency. It reminds me of a high-altitude white Châteauneuf
– higher praise there is not!"

André Leenhardt is a great fan and a craftsman of Mourvèdre which makes up 40%
of this blend. Aromas of crushed violets, prunes and black cherry predominate
here; the palate is fulsome, long and powerful.

Deeply-coloured , with an intensly savoury nose with dominant aromas of
roasted meat, dried herbs and crushed peppercorns. The palate is elegant, yet
sufficiently rich, with a smooth fruity (cassis and
blackberries) mouthfeel and flinty tannins. Excellent on its own or for
pairing with red-sauce Italian dishes.

Puech Chaud Rouge is a blend of 80 % Syrah, 10% Grenache and 10%
Mourvèdre, half cuve and half barrique, farmed just outside Nimes on
gravel/limestone soil. The nose is typical of a Languedoc wine, bit of
garrigue, tar, iodine, battling with the Syrah blackberry and purity. The
palate is quite dense, if not as elegant as its Northern cousin, yet loaded
with black cherry, charcuterie falvours, supported by assertive tannins,
which will soften with time to allow the Syrah class and charm to unfold in its
full glory.
