2011 Côtes du Rhône Villages, La Cadène Blanc, Domaine Chaume Arnaud, Rhône – £11.73 by the case - save £60.24
Rich, elegant, and bold, the fantastic palate displays a textural quality that white Rhône often delivers. Citrus and almond abound in the mouth. Clichéd and often said, but quite how the supposedly lesser appellations of the Rhône valley have kept their affordable price tags is beyond me. Matthew Cobb
2010 Montecucco, Sangiovese, Riserva, Campinuovi, Cinigiano, Tuscany, Italy – £15.26 by the case - save £32.28
A classically styled Tuscan red from the relatively recent DOC of Montecucco, this wine has benefitted from the luxuries afforded by the great 2010 vintage. Rich, spicy and brooding, there is power and warmth behind a satin-like veil of sweet, black-cherry fruit. With some time in a decanter this is a delight to drink now, though it has potential for a further seven or eight years – if not more. Felipe Carvallo
2012 Viernes Mencía, Godelia, Bierzo, Spain – £6.99 by the case - save £45.12
Bierzo represents a more modern approach to winemaking in Spain, with virtually no oak and a short maturation before bottling. This produces a bright, fruit-forward wine with flavours of cherry, raspberry and violets. This is medium-bodied in style with well-integrated tannins and is drinking perfectly at the moment. Stuart Fyfe
