 ...these Cinsault vines are more than 40 years old, so the resulting fruit has bags ofcharacter, and the wine is not filtered or fined so has not lost any of itspersonality getting from vat to bottle. Obviously, at this price, this is an unoaked wine, but a four-week maceration has resulted in no shortage of varietal character. I loved its perfume, its fruity, soft, charming start, andenjoyed the juicy crunch on the finish. This is a simple wine, but delightfully so, designed for drinking over the next six to eight months.

Although nominally a second wine, Dom Rafael is of very high quality, more approachable than its more tannic sibling (Mouchao) but not without concentration and real complexity. The majority of the grapes, all of which are indigenous and relatively unknown, are trodden by foot in old granitic lagares. They are then assembled and matured for over a year in large wooden vats before release. Both the diligence of the winemaking and the individuality of the grape varieties are evidenced in the 2005, a terrific and concentrated wine, with supple tannins, red and black fruits and a satisfying long and spicy finish.

Aussie wines aren't all old hat, as this astonishingly ripe, sweet, creamy, perfumed Shiraz proves. Its violet scent and berry fruit make it a good game red , especially with venison casserole.

Croix's wine is a blend of 3 different vineyards in Beaune; the wine displays elegant red fruit with notes of raspberry. Fine structure on the palate with a natural acidity and good purity of fruit. A good value wine.

A Volnay wirh beautiful purity of fruit with aromas of cherry and strawberry. Elegant complexity with fine tannin structure, a wine with a lot of charm;

Less immediately intense than the Auxey-Duresses this wine is softer and ultimately more stylish. Displaying a delicious, classic Volnay bouquet which brims with softly scented red cherry fruit, the wine has just enough tannic structure on the palate to enable it to develop complexity over the next three to four years.
