Spain 2014: The Golden Route

Our annual paean to Spanish winemaking – The Golden Route – returns with a flourish. This year’s selection sees our exemplary gathering of bodegas fortified in two key regions, with spirited whites arriving in force from Galicia to the north-west and vinous bounties of both hues descending from the Catalan hills in the north-east – notably wines from the D.O. of Empordà in the foothills of the Pyrenees and, further south, from the altitudinous vineyards of Terra Alta.

Naturally Rioja continues to be a mainstay of our offer, and you’ll no doubt notice a number of other new faces sourced from across the Iberian peninsula.

With over 50 producers featured in this year’s offer I hope you will agree this makes for an exciting and multifaceted line-up. The wines remain well priced and the fact the majority of them are released when they are ready to drink is a definite plus. That they also offer immense versatility when paired with the region’s diverse and delectable cuisine can only be regarded as an additional blessing.
