An exceptionally fine year for vintage Champagnes and arguably the finest vintage of the 1980s. Growing conditions were close to ideal with the exception of some instances of mildew in June and July. August and early September were very hot and dry and the rainfall at the beginning of the harvest came just at the right time leading fully physiologically ripe grapes.
A very large crop was produced and the al the Champagnes are now ready to drink. The best are rich and complex with abundant flavour and structure and will keep for many more years.
