1985 Champagne
Marvellous wines were made this year, even though producers faced very challenging growing conditions in the first half of the year. A very severe winter was followed by spring frosts, resulting in around 10% of the vines being destroyed. Damp and cloudy weather ensued throughout much of July and producers` expectations were low. A very warm and sunny autumn led to the grapes ripening fully and the picture changing completely.
Concentration and balance are the two words that most accurately describe the 1985s. The wines are very stylish and harmonious, displaying a perfect balance between fruit, acidity and alcohol. The best examples are drinking marvellously at present and still taste amazingly fresh.

"Krug 1985 is a full-flavored, muscular Champagne, still very fresh and complex. Hints at mushroom and sous-bois, spice and leather, with biscuit, coffee and citrus elements. The firm structure comes though on the finish, which remains fresh and smoky for minutes." (Wine Spectator.com ... MORE Drink 2007-2028 . Parker Score: 96/100 Wine Spectator Score: 96/100 | ||||
