Warm spring and warm summer but with sufficent rainfall. High humidity caused problems with the vine foliage during vegetation period and vines need additional thinning. Excellent harvest conditions resulted in ripe grapes The first part of the harvest took place under blue skies and dry weather. Great ripeness, round acidity, well-developped botrytis, raised hopes for great quality in the Auslese, Beerenauslese and Trockenbeerenauslese categories. The first week of November, however, brought rain and cancelled off some of the richesses of botrytis.
Very little Beerenauslese was made. Eiswein was made in January 1993 from a small quantity of selectively picked grapes, yielding a big, rich Eiswein with more body and less acidity than usual.
