An extraordinary vintage in Sauternes and arguably the finest since 1893. Absolutely perfect weather conditions resulted in many concentrated and profound wines that will continue to evolve over the next 2 decades. The summer was very hot and botrytis spread very quickly throughout the vineyard in mid-September. The bulk of the grapes were picked by the end of September.
Many old Sauternes hands predicted that the wines would be too alcoholic and blowsy. However their fears appear to have been misplaced, with the best wines displaying marvellous poise and balance as well as considerable power and depth of fruit. The majority of the 2ème crus are ready for drinking, although the very finest wines would still benefit from more cellaring.
