Katie Cooper's Wine Tunes
Katie Cooper, Wine Club Manager
Fast Car, Tracy Chapman - 2005 Sheridan Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon, Andrew Will, Washington
The rich, dark brooding fruits in the wine echo the deep, serious themes of escaping responsibility and finding freedom in this ultimately uplifting rock classic.
Dancing in the Street, Martha Reeves and the Vandellas - 2006 Lagar de Cervera, Albariño, Rias Baixas, Galicia
This is a light, fresh, summery white wine that suggests to me a feel-good smash hit like this. Much covered, but I think the original is still the best.
Bulletproof, Le Roux - 2008 Verduno Pelaverga, Fratelli Alessandria, Piedmont
The upbeat, fun electropop sound of this number one hit matches well to the frothy, immediate nature of this pretty wine.
The Heart Asks for Pleasure First, Michael Nyman - 2007 Riesling, Brandluft, Domaine Lucas & André Rieffel, Alsace
I love this piece of music, first made famous in the film ‘The Piano’, for its light, skipping simplicity. The racy elegance of this wine prances in a similar way across the palate, reflecting the music perfectly.
What If, Coldplay -2006 Pouilly-Vinzelles, Les Quarts, Domaine de la Soufrandière
Zesty and bright with a weightier, more creamy edge, this wine suggests pop with a serious side to me, so I have chosen my favourite Coldplay song, which has an equally sober theme.
