Mark Pardoe MW, Buying Director

Mark joined Berry Bros. & Rudd in 2003 after 15 years of experience running his own independent wine merchant business based in Surrey. When Ben Ellis Wines was acquired by Berry Bros. & Rudd, he joined the company as well, with principal responsibility for the Fine Wine department, before moving to the Buying department and was subsequently instrumental in the creation of Berry Bros. & Rudd’s Wholesale division in 2006.

While there, Mark was involved in the acquisition of a contract with Virgin Atlantic, which was followed by other partnerships with the Royal Albert Hall, the Royal Shakespeare Company, Newbury Racecourse and the Marylebone Cricket Club at Lord’s. Mark took on the position of Wine Buying Director from the 1st January 2013.

As Wine Buying Director, Mark works with Berry Bros. & Rudd’s buyers to ensure that the firm has the best possible selection of wines, covering all routes to market. Mark also works hard to ensure that Berry Bros. & Rudd make the most of relationships with suppliers for the benefit of the business, the suppliers, and the customers alike.

In his own words, Mark says his favourite part of his job is: "Discovering something new and high quality (at any price level); a supplier, a wine, a grape variety, or an opportunity, and seeing how it could enhance our range."

Expert’s Wine Tip:
Mark’s job enables him to taste wines from all over the world. He says: "I am more attracted by the arcane than the well-known because the world of wine is so diverse. Yet some of my greatest bottles have, of course, been from classic regions. I value discretion and subtlety over power and strength."
