Daftmill Inaugural Release Ballot

Daftmill Inaugural Release Ballot

The Background

Daftmill is Scotland’s newest and smallest malt whisky distillery. A true farm distillery, it is owned and operated by the Cuthbert family. The distillery only operates during the farm’s quieter seasons – mid-summer and winter – sometimes producing as few as 100 casks per year. When he’s not distilling, Francis Cuthbert is growing 100 percent of the malting barley used to make the whisky.

The barley used to make Daftmill is called Chariot. One of Francis’s favourites, it was grown in the Dam Park and Curling Pond fields next to the distillery. It was also among the last barleys malted in Fife by Robert Kilgour & Co, before it closed down. Daftmill is the first new distillery in the Lowlands for a long while, and the first in Fife for over a century. This whisky comes from the distillery’s first casks selected for bottling.
