Buying & Selling with BBX
About BBX, our fine wine exchange
How BBX works
BBX, our fine wine exchange, enables you to buy wines directly from other Berry Bros. & Rudd customers.
The sale process is managed by Berry Bros. & Rudd from start to finish and all wines are guaranteed for provenance and quality. Sellers pay a 10% commission, but there is no fee for buyers.
Sellers can offer any eligible wines in their collection, as long as it is currently stored In Bond and is in an unbroken case, in Berry Bros. & Rudd warehouses. They set the price and specify the quantity they want to sell. Buyers can agree to buy straight away at the set price or make an offer at a lower price by placing a bid.
You can also place a bid on wines that aren’t actively for sale, but are stored in Berry Bros. & Rudd warehouses. These bids may have a lower chance of being accepted, but this can be a good way to find unusual wines or get a great deal. We would recommend making realistic offers or sellers are likely to ignore your bids and may sell the wine to someone else.
To place a bid, you will need to register as a bidder. Log in or create an account and then follow the prompts for bidder registration.
Buying wines In Bond
All wines sold with BBX are In Bond. This means they are stored in our bonded warehouse and duty and VAT have not yet been paid on them.
When you buy wines with BBX they will transfer to your ownership but they will stay In Bond unless you choose to have them delivered. If you choose to have them delivered to you, then you will need to pay the duty and VAT charges if you are based in the UK.

Pricing on BBX
Price differences
Each seller sets the price of wines they choose to sell with BBX, so the price of wines may fluctuate between different sellers. The price shown on BBX may also differ from the price the same wine is sold by Berry Bros. & Rudd.
Wines sold with BBX are all sold In Bond, which means duty and VAT haven’t yet been paid on them. It’s important to consider that cost when comparing the price of wine from different sources.
‘Best of BBX’ prices
Our Best of BBX page displays a number of curations to better showcase the wines listed for sale by our customers. They show the most-attractively priced wines available.
We look at the price history on BBX over the last six months and current Liv-ex prices to identify the best deals.
Placing bids
You can place a bid on any wines that are currently for sale with BBX or any wines that are stored in our bonded warehouse. You can only place BBX bids online.
Your bids are more likely to be accepted on wines that are for sale, but if you make a strong offer then you may be able to buy wines that aren’t currently offered for sale.
If the wine is for sale and you make an offer at the asking price, the order will be processed immediately. If you place a bid below asking price, or bid on a wine that’s not currently offered for sale, the seller will have the opportunity to review your bid to decide whether to accept it.
You will need to register as a bidder and provide your card details before you place a bid.
Managing bids
Your bids are active for 60 days. You can change or cancel your bids as long as they haven’t already been accepted by the seller. We’ll email you updates and let you know when they’re about to expire.
If you’re outbid, we’ll send you an email and you’ll have the opportunity to increase your bid.
If the wine has no bids, you can set your bid for any value. If the wine does have bids, you must choose a higher amount than the current highest bid.

Valuation service
If you’d like a little more help choosing your price, we provide a free valuation service. Our experienced team will look at recent transactions on Berry Bros. & Rudd and BBX, as well as Liv-ex and Wine-Searcher data.
Liv-ex Market Price is based on the cheapest six and 12-pack wholesale prices advertised by leading merchants in the EU over the last 14 days. If no price is found the calculation is rolled back to the next price showing in the Liv-ex database.
Wine-Searcher valuations are based on current UK merchants’ prices and are refreshed at least once every 36 hours. BBX transactions and pricing are refreshed at least three times a day.
All valuations will be based on a 12 x 75cl case unless otherwise specified.
Berry Bros. & Rudd takes no responsibility for the accuracy of externally sourced valuations.

Multiple cases of the same wine
