Podere San Cristoforo

Podere San Cristoforo

Podere San Cristoforo  is a brand new Maremma estate, located in the Monteregio wine DOC zone in Tuscany between Gavorrano and the sea. The estate comprises 45 ha, of which only 13 ha are given over to vines: Sangiovese (9ha), Syrah (3ha), Petit Verdot (1ha).

Being so close to the sea enables the vines to be air-conditioned during the hot summers. The stony site is also criss-crossed with clay-rich, water-retentive veins.

The property is very much the brainchild of Lorenzo Zonin, who makes the wine and manages the estate along biodynamic lines. Three wines are made: a 100% Sangiovese wine 'Amaranto' vinified only in stainless-steel; 'Carandelle' also 100% Sangiovese but seeing 12 months in used french barrique; 'Podere San Cristoforo' being 100% Petit Verdot.
