The vineyard was founded in 1935 by Dr. Max Heger, whose previous profession was that of a country doctor, but his passion for wine resulted in purchasing some of the best slopes in the Kaiserstuhl area in the wine region of Baden in Germany

Places like Ihringer Winklerberg and Achkarrer Schlossburg where the climate is almost Mediterranean. As the slopes are steeply terraced, the use of machinery is almost impossible hence a lot of the work has to be done by hand. 95% of the wines are fully fermented which results in clear elegant wines with structure, longevity and complexity.
