The selection of Dario Rossetto's wines from Canus builds on Berrys' continued success with Italian whites, in particular those from Friuli-Venezia-Giulia.
Located in the interior zone of Colli Orientali del Friuli, overlooking Slovenia, former furniture designer Dario Rossetto bought the 10.5 hectare Corno di Rosazzo property in 2003 (his family had tended vines in the Veneto 30 years before). The terroir around Rosazzo (as well as Buttrio) is prized for its 'ponca' (schistous/calcareous) soils, 500 metres + elevated hilly topography & continental climate; as good for reds as it is for whites.
Fortunately the property boasted 20-50 year old vines, enabling him to release his first vintage in 2004. Assisted by local enologist Giovanni Bortoluzzi, Dario vinifies his wines in a mix of 25hl wooden barrels & stainless-steel tanks, using selected yeast; the whites do not generally go through malolactic fermentation. The reds are fermented in stainless-steel, followed by 12 months in wood.
