Domaine Albert Morot

Domaine Albert Morot

Domaine Albert Morot is one the leading Côte De Beaune properties. It was established by Albert Morot in 1820 and remains family owned and run. Until recently the domaine was run by Françoise Chopin, great granddaughter of the original Albert Morot. It is now run by Geoffroy Choppin de Janvry. The Domaine consists of just under 7 hectares of vineyards split between seven Beaune premier cru vineyards; Les Teurons, Les Gréves, Les Toussaints, Les Bressandes, Les Cent Vignes, Les Marconnets and La Bataillére.

The wines used not to see much new oak and were sometimes a little rustic but in certain vintages which suited the domaine, full of fruit and pleasure. Today there is more new wood evident and a slightly longer period spent in barrel. The average age of the vines is very high (approximately 45 years old) and yields are kept very low. The grapes are hand harvested and are the destalked before a 20-25 days cuvaison period. The wines are then matured in small barriques (50% new) for 18 months. They are bottled after a light finning but without filtration.
