2011 The Mascot, Napa Valley, California, USA
The Mascot is a wine produced by the Harlan family, owners of leading Napa Valley estates Harlan Estate, Promontory and BOND. Its first commercial vintage was 2008. Until then, it was something of a house wine for the Harlans, served at home to family and friends. The wine is produced from 15-year-old vines on average, planted on select hillside parcels throughout the family’s three properties in Napa. The fruit from each site is vinified separately, with a later barrel selection and blending after six to 14 months. The wine sees a total of three years’ barrel maturation and an additional 18 months of bottle ageing before release. The distinctive label features a bull terrier named Prince, whose image has been reproduced from an old stock certificate belonging to the family.
