Château La Tour de Byis a large Cru Bourgeois estate, consisting of 73 hectares of vineyards and is located in Bégadan at the viticultural northern extremes of the Médoc. La Tour de By was bought in 1965 by Messieurs Pages, Cailloux and Lapalu - they extended the cuvier and installed new cellars and today the property produces over 40,000 cases of wine a year. The wine is a blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot. It is matured in oak barriques (20% new) for 14 months.
La Tour de By's actual château is a stately building dating back to 1876, while the wines are Cabernet-dominated, packed with lively and spicy blackcurrant fruit and bolstered by a framework of well-integrated toasty oak. Today La Tour de By is unquestionably one of the leading Cru Bourgeois properties in the Médoc.
