Domaine Jean-Claude Ramonet is one of the most renowned estates in Chassagne-Montrachet, producing some of Burgundy’s most sought-after Grand Cru wines. The domaine’s exceptional holdings include four Montrachet Grand Crus—Le Montrachet, Bâtard-Montrachet, Chevalier-Montrachet, and Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet.
The domaine’s story began in the late 1920s when Pierre Ramonet, a driven and talented young vigneron, laid the foundations of what would become one of Burgundy’s most celebrated estates. Raised among the vines, Pierre purchased his first vineyard, Chassagne-Montrachet Les Ruchottes, in 1930 at just 24 years old. Over the decades, the estate expanded to its current 17 hectares, with a steadfast commitment to quality and tradition.
Today, Jean-Claude Ramonet and his daughters Anne-France and Clarisse uphold the family legacy. The domaine continues to prioritise old vines and low yields, ensuring remarkable complexity and longevity in its wines. Fermentation follows traditional methods, with ageing in oak barrels—typically 33% new, except for Montrachet, which is aged entirely in new oak. There is no bâtonnage, but extended lees contact enhances texture and depth.
Clive Coates MW famously described Ramonet as the white-wine equivalent of Henri Jayer or Domaine de la Romanée-Conti. Whether at village, Premier Cru, or Grand Cru level, these are some of the finest white wines in Burgundy.
