Description
Very occasionally Berry Bros & Rudd come across a cask of whisky that for various reasons we are unable to disclose the origins of, and whilst we would usually try to avoid this scenario, some casks are just too good to pass by. This sherry cask from Speyside is one such example.
The rich, dark hue of this mysterious Speysider suggests long years spent quietly maturing in an ex-sherry cask, and the nose supports this with plentiful woodspice, hints of charred earth, sticky tobacco and singed sultanas. Underneath those denser notes, some fresher fruit twinkles along with touches of menthol. The palate is a fine balance of a juicy maltiness and mouth-filling oak. Damson jam on wholemeal toast, back-of-cupboard dried apricots and cassia bark make the finish one to savour.
