Description

‘Having, since early childhood, holidayed repeatedly in various splendid parts of Wales, it has been delightful to watch the development of the first Welsh single malt in the modern era. Fascinating and characterful spirit is produced and then aged in an admirably wide range of cask types. To offer this very first ever Welsh whisky under our label has been a real pleasure, I feel sure there are more barrels of this calibre to be found in the Brecon Beacons.’

Rob Whitehead, Spirits Buyer, Berry Bros. & Rudd

A warming spicy nose offers notes of sweet Madeira, Victoria Sponge and lashings of golden syrup. A little time in the glass allows the distillate to power through bringing some green apple and barley sugars into the equation. The chewy palate shows a good balance of sweet sticky dried fruit notes from the cask balanced off with fresher citrus bursts and perhaps a little nuttiness on the back palate. A well made whisky that delivers well in the powerful cask.

The Welsh Whisky Company

The Welsh Whisky Company

The Welsh Whisky Company was founded in 2000 by a small group of Welsh whisky aficionados. The company produces Penderyn Single Malt Welsh Whisky and a range of high quality Welsh Spirits.

The Penderyn Distillery
is located in the picturesque village of Penderyn in the southern reaches of the Brecon Beacons National Park. The area has spectacular mountain scenery, open moorland and valleys containing fast-flowing streams, rivers and waterfalls.

The majority of the distilled malt spirit is laid down and matured in Buffalo Trace bourbon casks, and finished in rare Madeira barrels to impart a unique and distinctive character. A number of other woods, such as sherry casks, are also used for maturation, to provide a variety of specialised limited edition whiskies to be released from time to time. All distillation, maturation and (unusually) bottling are carried out on the company's premises; enabling close quality control to be applied to all stages of the process.

Penderyn Single Malt Welsh Whisky was first launched on St David's Day, 1st March 2004, in the presence of HRH Prince Charles.
