Description

American Rye Whiskey with a year’s secondary maturation in an ex-Sauternes barrel; what a combination! The nose offers up sweet, sticky notes of peaches in syrup and dried apricot balanced against a more savoury spicey note akin to fresh rye bread, very unusual and equally enticing. The palate is huge with zaps of spicey rye tempered by sweet fruity notes from the wood, flavours of marmalade, dark chocolate, pineapple and black pepper - incredible. Sweetness and spice continue to mingle on the finish leaving one in need of another sip or two to figure out exactly what just came out of that glass.

Chicago’s Few distillery was founded in 2011, ironically in what was once the home of Prohibition; Evanston, and Few is the first distillery in Evanston since Prohibition was lifted.

About this SPIRIT

FEW distillery

FEW distillery

FEW, founded in 2011, is a grain-to-glass urban distiller who make arguably some of the USA’s best Bourbon and Rye. FEW is based in the Chicago suburb of Evanston, Illinois, home of the US Temperance movement. It is named, rather ironically, for Frances Elizabeth Willard, head of the Christian Women’s Temperance Movement.

Founder and distiller Paul Hletko has relentlessly pursued a new style of urban whiskey that is equal to that of his friends in Kentucky. His choice of starting a distillery in the home of Prohibition and provocatively naming it for one of the key protagonists should not be seen purely as a marketing stunt though. These are serious spirits with incredible flavour. The speciality at FEW is to add a touch more Rye than normal to their Bourbon, giving a signature spice. These spirits are in high demand, and quantities are thus very restricted.
