2022 Côtes du Jura, Poulsard, Clos des Fraisiers, Domaine de Montbourgeau

Description

Save 20% on the 75cl bottle, previously priced at £38.00. Offer valid while stocks last. BBX listings excluded.

The only 2022 that was bottled was the 2022 Côtes du Jura Poulsard, which was hand destemmed in the traditional way for the grape. It has a pale, bright, ruby colour and a beautiful nose with a mixture of alpine herbs and wild berries. The palate reveals a certain stony austerity that I loved, finishing dry and long with an almost salty twist. It matured in two 500-litre oak barrels. Some 1,200 bottles were filled in April 2023.

Many changes are happening at Domaine Montbourgeau, the leading producer in l'Etoile in Jura. César Derieux took over from his mom Nicole with the 2019 vintage he arrived in 2017), and he has started transforming the 10 hectares of vineyards to organic farming and hopes to get the certification in 2026. They produce more terroir wines from specific vineyards and more ouillé without flor), even experimenting with skin contact. He uses a little sulfur during fermentation, but nothing else is added afterwards, not even at bottling time. Total production is around 50,000 bottles.
