OTHER - Nose
Elegant. Malty and fruity. Candied quince, stewed apples in honey. A delicate spice festoon wraps up the fruit. Toffee apple.
Palate
Silky with a crisp feel. Rich cooked fruit flavours. Oak is beautifully integrated. Liquorice at the back. Perfect balance with the nose.
Finish
Sweet, on the liquorice root. Lingering on a clean and pleasant astringent note.
Comment
An aromatic whisky, with a full fruity character. Very well structured.

Martine Nouet - Whisky Magazine Issue 118 Nose
A very pronounced cocoa note (nibs rather than powder) arrives with a lovely rich buttery pastry smell. From then on, its creamed coconut, light fudge, a hint of very delicate coffee, vanilla and fresh cream. Lovely.
Palate
Milky and sweet, leading into swirls of vanilla fudge, more coconut (macaroons), chopped nuts and cream.
Finish
Light, but not short of flavour. The coconut is dominant, alongside a rich vanilla oak.
Comment
A toss up with No.1 (Balbalir 83) for whisky of the month from me. Absolutely superb.

The Producer

Discovery Road Malt Whisky

Discovery Road Malt Whisky

Discovery Road was founded by international whisky writer and 'new world whiskies' specialist Dominic Roskrow. This new range of whiskeys is the result of Dominic’s travels to distilleries outside of traditional areas of the world, to gain enough experience and knowledge to effectively create a new category named ‘New World Whiskey’.

Dominic believes that making whiskey based on a person’s culture or a particular family’s heritage, and the resources they have available, is the best way to do so. And the best way to create a unique product that will be different to any other.

Dominic is launching a number of different whiskeys from around the world, including two single malts from England and two from Dutch distillers Zuidam. He also has casks from India, Taiwan, France, Sweden and New Zealand.
