Description

We head to Westminster’s Church House to explore the wonderful wines of Germany, Austria and Alsace. These regions produce some of the world’s finest white wines, as well as an increasingly interesting collection of reds.
Despite its diminutive size, Alsace is home to many of the world’s finest white wines; from the ancient Riesling grape and exuberant Pinot Gris to the richly-flavoured Gewürztraminer and the majestic Pinot Noir. We will be joined by André Rieffel, Domaine Ostertag, Rolly Gassmann, Maison Trimbach, Domaine Zind-Humbrecht and Hugel et Fils.

Germany produces some of the greatest white wines from anywhere in the world, especially the racy Riesling grape, but for every acre of white grapes, there are now five acres of red too. This Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir) buzz is largely thanks to dynamic winemakers such as Rudolf Fürst. Come and taste his wines, alongside the impressive Dönnhoff, Von Winning, J. J. Prum, Selbach-Oster and Heymann-Löwenstein.

Austria boasts wonderful indigenous grape varieties such as the fashionable and versatile aromatic white Grüner Veltliner, notable Rieslings and the hugely impressive wines from the red Blaufrankish grape. This mountainous, landlocked country has everything, including an extensive winemaking history. Recently we have seen a fashionable revival, mainly thanks to sommeliers who admire the versatility and affinity with food that Austrian wines offer. Weingut Knoll, Prager, Nikolaihof, Weingut Bründlmayer and Moric will be on hand to guide us through their wines.

Tickets are limited to four per account.
