Description

This guided walk, which lasts approximately one hour, begins and ends at No.3 St James’s Street and explores the area’s long and multifaceted history. You will hear tales of its long-past as a medieval leper colony (lepers lie buried yet in Green Park), the influence of The Court of St James’s, the arrival of The Waterloo Dispatch in 1815 at The East India Club, the notorious Kitty Fisher Club, the purlieus of Oscar Wilde and Beau Brummel, Christopher Wren’s parish church, Rosa Lewis’s Cavendish Hotel, The Blitz and more.

Your guide for the tour, Hugh McDonald-Buchanan, changed career to qualify as Blue Badge Guide of the Year having worked in the City for 23 years. He is now a professional tour guide and lecturer, and has a particular interest in the colourful and fascinating history of St James’s.

Following the tour, come into the comfort of our Cellars for your Champagne Brunch, made by Head Chef Stuart Turner. Your wine specialist George Lacey will pour three styles of Champagne for you and explain how they are made while you tuck into the delicious buffet. Hosted by George Lacey, Fine Wine Specialist, with guest speaker Hugh McDonald-Buchanan

Dress code: casual

NB Wines for this event will be chosen from Berry Bros. & Rudd’s stock at the time of the event, so most will be available to order afterwards.

Breakfast & Brunches

Our Champagne Breakfasts and Brunches are combined with a walking tour of St James’s, giving you the chance not only to build up an appetite, but to learn about this historic part of London.

Our home since 1698, St James’s has a fascinating and colourful history. On a relaxed hour-long walking tour you will be guided around the area by an expert guide, before returning to our cellars for a relaxed breakfast or brunch, accompanied – of course – by Champagne.
