The evening after the harvest, the fruit for this wine is gently crushed and left on its skins overnight, then the juice is run off the next morning. The wine is a blend of Groppello (which takes the lead in this Chiaretto), Marzemino, Barbera and Sangiovese, all grown in a south-facing single-vineyard site called La Madonnina, situated close to Lake Garda. The aromas hint at florals and pomegranate, but it is the concentration and freshness that define the palate. Katherine Dart MW, Wine Buyer.
