Description

Greek and Cypriot wine is currently enjoying some well-earned time in the limelight. Although the two countries’ vinous output has some stylistic similarities, their wines are actually quite distinct from one another. However, the two countries do share some gastronomic qualities – they are the home of mezze and many of the native wines celebrate and complement the variety of flavours found on the table. Regional Greek cuisine, as well as the associated wines, vary dramatically, from the Balkan influences of the north to the fragmentation of the Aegean islands to the south and east. Cyprus enjoys Greek, Turkish and Lebanese food influences but, despite its more extreme climate, finds its winemaking firmly rooted in Greek cultural soil.
