Western Australia is one of the world’s most remote wine regions, with the Nullarbor stretching between it and the next wine-growing region in South Australia. Margaret River was identified for its vine-growing potential only in the 1960s; but today this extraordinary beautiful corner of Australia produces top-class Cabernet blends and Chardonnay. Three hours’ drive further south, producers only started realising the possibilities for Riesling and Syrah in Frankland River in the ‘80s.
