Introduction to Barolo and Barbaresco, Monday 23rd March 2020

Although a much smaller region, Barolo is often compared to Burgundy in terms of the quality of its wines and the complexity of its terroir. As in Burgundy, wines are made from a single noble variety, Nebbiolo, and the best take years of ageing to reach maturity. Somewhat less well-known, but no less exciting, is Barolo’s neighbour to the east: Barbaresco. Here, wines made from the same grape, Nebbiolo, are said to be easier to enjoy in their youth than the famously age-worthy wines of Barolo. After a delicious apéritif, we will sample 10 wines from both regions to see whether we can detect the differences. Hosted by Barbara Drew MW, Wine and Spirits Education Specialist

Tutored Tastings

Tutored Tastings

We’re currently offering virtual events, but from August we are starting to take bookings again. We’ll be offering private dining for smaller gatherings and transforming our Napoleon Cellar into a restaurant, with separate tables for each group of guests. Find out more.

Treat yourself, your family or a client to one of our exclusive tutored or walkaround wine tastings. One of our experts will guide you through a range of wines while educating you on the evening’s topic. From blind tastings to producer focusses, these are unmissable chances to broaden your wine knowledge.

At our walkaround tastings, a selection of fascinating wines will be set out for you to explore, with an expert on hand to elucidate on the evening’s theme.

The Napoleon Cellar and the Pickering Cellar provide the perfect venues for your tutored wine tastings.

Sussex cellar is our newest event space with terracotta archways and intimate yet contemporary feel. Design influences hail from Spanish wine cellars or Bodegas, and use handmade London tiles to create archways and columns that extend through both the mezzanine and the sub-basement level of the cellars.
