Let’s start with a sparkling from Spain: the 2017 Raventós i Blanc. It’s pale pink, but don’t let that fool you that this is not a very serious wine. It’s perfect for welcoming guests by the pool with refreshing flavours of strawberry, fennel and a touch of brioche. Next for entertaining would be a Sancerre from Domaine Riffault. Incredibly pure and fresh, this white cleanses the palate with refreshing minerality. On a similar theme, a summer garden party would not be complete without a Mediterranean white. The Assyrtiko from Crete is refreshingly clean, with a mineral core and a herbal twist. Completing our white wine line-up is a white Burgundy from Olivier Merlin. This white is a little weightier with oak influence and flavours of citrus and orchard fruits, as well as some subtle spice and flint. Next, we have a fabulous Beaujolais from Julien Sunier. It’s made from old-vine Gamay grown from some of the region's best sites; organically grown and naturally made, not using any sulphur during vinification or bottling. Think red-fruit flavours with a hint of natural spritz. It’s delicious on its own, lightly chilled, or with a plate of charcuterie. Last, but not least, is the Château Belle-Vue. Drinking well now, this elegant Claret seamlessly meshes flavours of blackberries, hedgerow fruit, dried flowers, spice and tobacco, served on plate of velvety tannins.
