Description

Our collection of Rhône Valley wines brings together three fantastic wines from top producers. In the mix, you’ll find a red Côtes du Rhônes Villages from Château La Nerthe, an old-vine Châteauneuf-du-Pape from Domaine de la Janasse and a white Châteauneuf-du-Pape from Domaine des Saumades.

This mixed case contains two of the following wines:

2019 Côtes du Rhône Villages Rouge, Les Cassagnes, Château La Nerthe

This red blend comes from limestone and sandy soils in the Southern Rhône. Its dark ruby colour entices you in on the nose with delicate flavours of blackberries, ripe plim and sweet spices. The palate is rich, mouth-filling and beautifully smooth, balancing ripe red fruits with complex notes of garrigue and vanilla. Well-integrated tannins linger on the persistent finish, making this a perfect accompaniment to beef, lamb or game dishes. Overall, this is a surprisingly elegant wine – and excellent value for the quality. Drink now to 2025.

2014 Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Vieilles Vignes, Domaine de la Janasse, Rhône

The Vieilles Vignes in question are located in lieu-dits Le Crau, Les Soumades and, appropriately enough, la Janasse, the second of which has distinctive red clay soil and the last of which is strewn with large alluvial pebbles (galets roulés). Ripe, complex and linear, this is one of the finest wines of the vintage; crushed minerals, soft spice, ripe fruit and a haunting character on the finish which recalls fennel and even aniseed.

2019 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Blanc, Domaine des Saumades, Rhône

Very pale in colour. A straight, no-nonsense, mineral, dry, precise style of Châteauneuf blanc. Long, straight as an arrow. Aromatics are very much reigned in for now, but this has direction and purpose. Sandy soils of lieu-dit Pignan, fermented and aged in old barriques.
