Our collection of New World reds is comprised of three delicious wines, including a New Zealand Pinot Noir, a Frog’s Leap Zinfandel from California and a South African Cabernet Sauvignon. It’s just the thing for restocking your wine rack with fantastic New World reds.
This mixed case contains two of the following wines:
2017 Doctors Flat, Pinot Noir, Central Otago, New Zealand
This is another superb Pinot Noir from Doctors Flat, an absolute favourite of ours here in the team. The wine is brimming with beautifully aromatic cherry fruit – for me, the signature of New Zealand’s great Pinots. There is a savoury quality on the palate, with crisp tannins adding some structure to all the wonderfully ripe fruit. This is one you could drink right off the boat or keep for a few years. It’s super value for Otago, as well. Drink now to 2026.
2019 Frog's Leap, Zinfandel, Napa Valley, California, USA
This heady wine is a Zinfandel-dominant field blend, co-fermented with Petite Sirah and aged in small concrete vessels. Youthful, summer-berry fruits dominate the nose. This leads temptingly into a mouth-filling palate bursting with ripe strawberries, cherry conserve and a touch of spice; it’s dense without being too heavy. The finish is long and complex, with perfect balance, indicating that while this wine is delicious to drink now, it will reward the patient collector for at least 10 years.
2017 Restless River, Main Road and Dignity Cabernet Sauvignon, Hemel en Aarde, South Africa
The 2017 Main Road & Dignity comes from 1.59 hectares of Cabernet Sauvignon vines planted in 1999 on granite soils. The enticing bouquet features blackberry, raspberry and light menthol scents; a touch of garrigue (wild fennel and thyme) emerges with time. The palate is medium-bodied with a cool, slightly herbaceous entry (mint and wild thyme again), beautiful balance and gentle grip. There is a savory, briny element to this Cabernet, and fine length on the finish. Excellent
