Description

Join Mark Pardoe MW, our Wine Director, for a series of tastings designed to help you piece together the 2020 Bordeaux vintage in greater detail. These virtual events can be purchased with wines at the price listed or as tuition only for £45. You can also purchase these sessions individually or as part of a course. If you’d like to purchase the tuition only and/or course option, you can find the details further down on this page.

While Bordeaux is famed for its red wines, many of the region’s dry whites and sweet wines are of exceptional quality. The three wines to be tasted are all produced in vineyards to the south of the city of Bordeaux. Mark will begin by taking you through the red wines of Pessac-Léognan – the only commune with a First Growth classification outside of the Médoc. He will then tackle the region’s unique dry and sweet wines, shedding light on the unique weather conditions that are required to produce Sauternes, and how these extraordinary wines fared in 2020.

Wines to be tasted on the evening:

2015 Ch. Haut-Bailly, Cru Classé, Pessac-Léognan, Bordeaux
2016 Domaine de Chevalier Blanc, Cru Classé, Pessac-Léognan, Bordeaux
2017 Berry Bros. & Rudd Sauternes by Ch. Climens (37.5cl)

We will arrange the delivery of the wines to be tasted directly to your home. On the evening of the event, simply log in via Zoom, where our expert host will take you the wines. The ticket price includes full-sized bottles of the wines, so you can share the experience with family and friends. The virtual tasting will start at 6.30pm and last for one hour and 15 minutes. Once a ticket has been booked, we’ll email you to confirm the details of your delivery.

NB For this tasting we recommend using a Coravin, which allows you to pour the wine without removing the cork, and keeps the wine fresh for up to a couple of months. This can be purchased and organised through one of our executives for an additional £199 (CORAVIN Model 3), which will be added to the delivery.

Mark has more than 30 years experience in Bordeaux and buying En Primeur. This evening, he will show you how to identify the characteristics of a handful of Bordeaux communes, and how they manifest in the wines provided. Then, he will talk through comparisons between recent Bordeaux vintages to explain what to expect from the upcoming 2020 release. This part of the discussion will focus on the year’s climatic and weather conditions, focusing on how the different terroirs fared across Bordeaux, and how these elements have shaped the style of Bordeaux ’20.

The tastings will cover:

St Estèphe and Pauillac, Thursday 13th May 2021
St Julien and Margaux, Thursday 20th May 2021
St Emilion and Pomerol, Thursday 27th May 2021
Pessac-Léognan, Dry White & Sauternes, Thursday 3rd June 2021

If you'd like to purchase all four virtual tastings in the series, please contact us at ticketedevents@bbr.com to place your order.
