Les Mitans
3.98 hectares (plus 4.32 ha of Ormeau from 2006)
AOC : Volnay Premier Cru
Lavalle: Première Cuvée *
Rodier : Première Cuvée
JTCM: Premier cru
First mentioned in the Martyrology of Notre Dame de Beaune in 1236. Across the years the name has been written Mitans or Mitant with one unfortunate aberration in 1790 as Mutant! The origin of the name probably refers to Mitans ‘middling’ situation at mid-slope. The vineyard is exposed due east, similar in style to Ormeau which has now been integrated within Mitans, with a light coloured stony topsoil. Good examples can be found from Domaine de Montille and (since 2005) Domaine Michel Lafarge.
