Rio Negro

Known for its cool climate and unique terroir, the Rio Negro region in Patagonia has gained recognition for producing some of Argentina's highest-quality wines.

It benefits from a cool climate influenced by the Atlantic Ocean and the surrounding mountains. The cooling effects of the ocean breeze and the Andes Mountains help to moderate temperatures and extend the growing season, allowing for slow and steady ripening of the grapes. The region experiences significant diurnal temperature variation, with warm days and cool nights, contributing to developing grapes with good acidity and expressive flavors.

The Rio Negro region is mainly known for its production of Pinot Noir. The cool climate and terroir of the region create ideal conditions for this delicate grape variety, resulting in elegant and expressive wines with vibrant red fruit flavors, balanced acidity, and fine tannins. The region also cultivates other red grape varieties, such as Merlot, Malbec, and Cabernet Franc, as well as white grape varieties, including Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, and Semillon.

Recently, the region has gained recognition for producing high-quality sparkling wines, particularly those made in the traditional method (Champenoise). The cool climate and good acidity of the grapes make them well-suited for sparkling wine production, resulting in refined and lively bubbles.

Many vineyards in the Rio Negro region employ sustainable viticultural practices, focusing on organic and biodynamic farming methods. This commitment to sustainable agriculture aims to preserve the region's natural resources and produce wines with minimal intervention.
