Rhône 2014 En Primeur

Over the last decade our Rhône offer has grown apace, reflecting a series of wonderful vintages and the glorious diversity that has flourished at both ends of the valley. In 2014 we have, for one year only, decided to reduce the number of producers to be offered en primeur and to focus exclusively on those who have made outstanding wines in what was an undeniably tricky vintage.

Tricky but far from poor, merely complicated and challenging; as one would expect in such circumstances, some have succeeded better than others. This may be just as much as a result of extraordinarily unpredictable weather patterns and resulting good luck, in a year where even neighbours experienced different meteorological conditions.

But good luck or not, those who succeeded have demonstrated tenacity and real skill in the face of cooler, and at times stormy, weather in what is normally the warmest part of the vegetative cycle.

Rhône 2014: The North

Rhône 2014: The North

With six sub regions, 15 producers and more than 30 wines to choose from, there should be plenty to satisfy Rhone aficionados this year. The wines of Côte-Rôtie through to Cornas have poise and finely etched fruit, glorious freshness and plenty of personality. Browse the full selection here.

Rhône 2014: The South

This was a “triumphant” vintage for many of the whites and a very commendable effort by the reds. The best examples display approachable red fruit charm, savoury depth and that classic herbal ingredient that has always made Châteauneuf-du-Pape so attractive.
