A fine vintage virtually across the whole of Italy. the North & Centre enjoyed a deep snowy winter, damp spring, hot summer and long, dry September & October for harvesting; conditions that served up an abundance of ripe, sunny wines, a characteristic of (red) vintage 2009 generally across Northern Europe. Harvest dates were early but not as anticipated as in 2007.
Acidity levels remained good, keeping the wines fresh &providing the potential for further development in bottle. The South by contrast suffered a rainy season, bouts of peronospera, and relatively cool temperatures, if warmer in Puglia. David Berry Green , Italy Buyer
