Across most of the country, even in Sicily, 2013 will be remembered as a vintage that harks back to the good old days before global warming: a cool, wet spring, a burst of summer heat, followed by a mild, damp autumn and late harvest. A vintage for whites perhaps, as reds struggled to reach phenolic maturity before splitting. Site will be especially important. A natural thinning of the crop in spring will have helped. These are fresh, linear wines.
