Learn more about 1980 Champagne
Cold and damp weather throughout June and July severely affected the flowering process and prospects for a good quality vintage looked poor. However, the vintage was saved by a period of warm and sunny weather in September. In the end, small quantities of wine were produced with wide variations in quality. The worst examples lacked body and were very acidic. Some vintage Champagnes of above-average quality were produced - they are all fully mature.
